Emily Lesser tacked another three inches onto her school record in the shot put on Saturday afternoon at the Thundering Herd Classic, leading the effort for the Bison women's track & field team.
Lesser threw 51-10.50 (15.81m), winning the event by three and a half feet. The Maple Grove, Minn., native ranks 28th in the nation and first in The Summit League this season in the shot put. She has extended her own school record three times this indoor season.
Sophomore
Taylor Janssen claimed first in the mile, crossing the line in 5:06.67.
Four Bison women –
Deidre Hahn,
Morgan Milbrath,
Melissa Kitching and
Amy Andrushko – ran under 57 seconds in the 400m dash, led by Hahn in 56.52. Kitching clocked an indoor personal-best of 56.70, while Andrushko posted a personal-best of her own at 56.98.
Bison sophomore
Allie Lahren had a strong day in the horizontal jumps, matching her personal-best marks in the long jump (18-05.00) and triple jump (37-06.75) to place second in both events. Freshman
Piper Jensen was close behind, taking third in both events. Jensen posted season-best marks of 18-03.25 in the long jump and 37-05.75 in the triple.
Redshirt freshman
Courtney Pasiowitz had a near-personal best in the shot put, throwing 48-04.50 (14.74m) for a runner-up finish behind Lesser.
Anna Benke matched the fourth-best height of her career in the pole vault, clearing 12-09.50 (3.90m) for second place. Bison freshman
Lauren Gietzen cleared 12-03.50 (3.75m) to climb to seventh on the NDSU all-time list.
NDSU freshman
Jaelin Beachy finished fourth in the 60m hurdles, running 9.46 seconds in the prelims and 9.47 in the finals.
A pair of former Bison All-Americans won event titles.
Ashley Tingelstad was first in the 400m dash in 54.22, and Leslie Brost cleared 13-09.25 (4.20m) to claim the pole vault crown.
NDSU will split its athletes between the SDSU Indoor Invitational and the Iowa State Classic next weekend.
