FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University women's soccer team will go on a foreign trip to Italy and San Marino from March 12-20, experiencing a combination of competition and recreational activities on the trip.
"Our spring break trip to Italy is an amazing opportunity for the NDSU soccer program. It really covers all of the bases for what you would want in a trip abroad, great culture, great soccer and an outstanding team bonding experience," head coach Mark Cook said. "I am sure this will be an experience each one of our players will remember for a lifetime. As a staff, we are really looking forward to seeing the excitement on the girls' faces as they board the plane to Milan March 12."
The Bison will play two exhibition matches against USD San Zaccaria and Castelfranco Calcio Femminile in the San Marino Republic and Pisa. NDSU will also attend an Italian Serie B match featuring Novara and Bari.
When not on the pitch, the Bison women will also have numerous opportunities to sightsee and experience various aspects of the Italian culture.
In addition to San Marino and Pisa, NDSU will also visit Milan, Venice and Florence on the trip.
"I would really like to thank our administration, Matt Larsen, Todd Phelps, Troy Goergen and Pat Fredrickson for allowing this great opportunity to take place," said Cook. "Each one saw the value that this trip will have for our program, and without their support this great opportunity would not have been possible."
North Dakota State finished the 2015 season with an overall record of 13-6-1 and went unbeaten in Summit League play for the first time in program history with a 7-0-1 record. The Bison claimed the league's regular season title for the first time since 2009 and advanced to The Summit League tournament championship match.
Match Schedule (CDT)
March 16 – USD San Zaccaria, 2 p.m.
March 17 – Castelfranco Calcio Femminile, Noon
