RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Former North Dakota State distance runner
Erin Teschuk represented Canada in the 2016 Olympic Games on Saturday morning, competing in the qualifying round of the 3,000m steeplechase.
Teschuk (Winnipeg, Manitoba) clocked 9:53.70 to finish in 46th place overall. She became the sixth former NDSU athlete to compete in the Summer Olympic Games.
"I felt relaxed and ready going into it, but in the race I just felt flat, especially going over the barriers," Teschuk said. "It wasn't the race I wanted. I'm taking lots of motivation out of it – get some rest and then get right back at it. Four years down the line, it could be a completely different race for me. I'm trying to focus on that."
Teschuk, just 21 years old, is a two-time Canadian national champion in the steeplechase. She earned seven first-team All-America honors in track & field and cross country for North Dakota State from 2015-16. Teschuk also represented Team Canada at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, in August 2015.
Teschuk signed a contract in July to run professionally for Asics Furman Elite. Her season-best time in the steeplechase was 9:48.65, and she ranks third in Canadian history in the event.
