Payton Otterdahl did something Saturday that had only ever been done twice before.

He threw the shot put 71 feet even (21.64m), extending his world lead this year and taking over the No. 3 spot on the all-time NCAA indoor list. Only the collegiate co-record holders, Ryan Crouser of Texas (2016) and Ryan Whiting of Arizona State (2008) have ever thrown the indoor shot put further. Their margin over Otterdahl now stands at a mere three and a half inches (71-03.50 / 21.73m).

Otterdahl already ranked No. 1 in the world this year, but increased his margin to 19 inches.

Bison sophomore
Alex Talley had a big throw of his own, moving up to No. 18 in the NCAA this season in the shot put. He improved his personal-best by 16 inches to 62-02.25 (18.95m), and now ranks third in NDSU indoor history.

Michael Keogan hit a personal-best in the shot put for the third straight week, throwing 57-11.00 (17.65m) to rank eighth in school history.

Talley won the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 67-11.50 (20.71m) – ranked 13th in the NCAA this year and second all-time at NDSU. Sophomore
Trevor Otterdahl finished second, and Keogan was third as the Bison swept the top three places in the weight.

Alex Bartholomay (Bowman, N.D.) won the 3000m in 8:24.13, ranking 10th in NDSU history. Junior
Elliott Stone captured the mile title, clocking a career-best 4:12.25.

Senior sprinter
J.T. Butler ran an indoor personal-best 21.93 in the 200m, moving up to seventh all-time at NDSU in the event. He also posted a season-best 6.92 seconds in the 60m dash for third place in the meet.

Josh Knutson ran a season-best 3:20.98 for NDSU in the 4x400m, taking third place.

Beau Brannan took third in the 800m in a season-best 1:54.61. Roder was fourth in the 400m in a season-best 49.19. Sophomore
Dominic Martinez placed fifth in the 60m hurdles, running a season-best 8.39 seconds.

Kelle'Mon Hinton was third in the triple jump with a mark of 48-04.50 (14.74m). Sophomore
Marcus Walton took fourth in the high jump, clearing 6-08.00 (2.03m), and finished fifth in the long jump at 22-08.50 (6.92m).
