FORT WAYNE, Ind.--Amanda Hyde scored a game-high 22 points including 9-of-10 free throws as Fort Wayne used a strong second half to defeat North Dakota State University 65-58 in a Summit League women's basketball game played Thursday, Jan. 10, before 210 at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center.

North Dakota State (1-3 Summit League, 5-11) is scheduled to play Oakland University (1-3, 7-9) at 1 p.m. Central Saturday, Jan. 12, in Rochester, Mich. The Golden Grizzlies lost to South Dakota State on Thursday.

The Bison led by as many as seven points in the first half and carved out a 39-35 lead with 16:49 left on Marena Whittle's three-pointer. The lead changed hands nine times during the contest.

Whittle scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season. It was her fourth double-figure rebound effort.

However, Fort Wayne outscored NDSU 21-2 over the next 10 minutes to take a 56-41 Haley Siebert's layup. Erin Murphy, Stefanie Mauk and Siebert sparked the Mastodons run. The Bison shot 29.3 percent in the second half.

Murphy scored seven of her 17 during the explosion, while Siebert netted eight of her final 12 points and Mauk six of her nine.

North Dakota State did cut the deficit to five points on three occasions down the stretch, the last at 63-58 with 32-seconds left on a pair of Whittle free throws.

Hyde kept the Bison at a distance, hitting all eight of her free throws in the second half with six coming in the game's final 1:14. The Mastodons made 17 of 20 free throws, while NDSU hit all 10 attempts from the foul line.

Dani DeGagne led North Dakota State with 16 points and Katie Birkel added 11. The Bison held a 35-28 rebounding advantage, but had 12 turnovers compared to nine for IPFW.

The Mastodons hit 41.2 percent from the field overall and NDSU made 39.3 percent. The teams combined to make 10 of 36 from three-point arc.
