North Dakota State's Olivia Cole and Sarah Panzer were named to ESPN The Magazine University Academic All-America® women's soccer third team on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
Cole, a senior midfielder from Champlin, Minn., was named tournament MVP at Creighton University's Diadora Classic where the Bison went 2-0 with a pair of shutouts. For her efforts, she was named Division I Independent co-Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 27, 2005.
She holds NDSU's single-season school record with six game-winning goals and is among the leaders in several school career records: fourth in goals (25), fifth in points (62) and second in game-winning goals (9).
Academically, Cole has been selected to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District second team, 2004 Division I Independent All-Academic Team and the 2002 CoSIDA Academic All-District first team (College Division). She maintains a 3.91 grade-point average in pharmacy.
Panzer, a junior defender from Burnsville, Minn., has started every game (50) for the Bison during her career. She is a vital member of a stingy defense which posted 10 shutouts this season.
A mainstay in the middle, Panzer helped NDSU post a 0.81 goals-against average in 2005 and while allowing its opponents to a 0.055 shot percentage en route to NDSU outscoring the opposition 32-12 in 17 contests.
Panzer was a 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District second-team selection. She has scored two goals and notched five assists from her defender position during her career. She holds a 4.00 grade-point average in electrical engineering.
In its second season of Division I play, North Dakota State finished the 2005 season with an 11-5-1 record.
