A standout receiver for North Dakota State in the late 1960s, Wald set the school record for the most receptions in a game with 13 catches against Northern Illinois in 1968. He was named to the All-NCC football team and was honorable mention All-America in 1969. He went on to become a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force.
