Albrecht served as president of North Dakota State from 1962 to 1968, and his name is synonymous with academic excellence and the dramatic rejuvenation of athletics. After only 22 wins in 89 games and a 0-10 record in 1962, Albrecht told the news media, “We should be doing better,” and during his tenure the athletic program did an incredible turnaround. First Darrell Mudra, then Ron Erhardt guided Bison football teams to three College Division national championships (1965, 1968, 1969), seven consecutive North Central Conference titles, six postseason bowl games, a mind-boggling 35-game unbeaten string, and national recognition for NDSU and the NCC.
