A guard and linebacker on the North Dakota State football from 1947 through 1950, he earned four varsity letters and started 34 consecutive games beginning with the third game of his freshman season. Co-captain of the Bison in 1949 as a junior, he was honorable mention on the 1950 All-NCC team. He taught and coached at Linton (N.D.) High School for six years and was an assistant coach at Michigan State University under Duffy Daughtery from 1957 to 1960. He served as a professor and administrator at the University of Minnesota for 18 years before leaving for an executive position with Land O’Lakes, Inc., a food and agricultural supply company in the Twin Cities.
