Lettered four years in both football and track, winning the pole vault in the North Dakota All-State competition in 1924. He coached at Detroit Lakes (Minn.) High School from 1925-30 before beginning a 19-year career as the football and track coach at Fargo Central High School where he coached 10 state champion track teams. His credits include coaching three NDSU Hall of Famers (Wheeler, Mulready and Rothrock). He officiated football and basketball for 25 years and was the official timer for 15 years for NDSU home football games.
