Two-time All-North Central Conference defensive end for the Bison in 1973 and 1974. Named the outstanding defensive lineman in the NCC and to the Associated Press Little All-America first team in 1974 after an outstanding senior year. When his career was over, Dahl was the holder or co-holder of 10 individual defensive records. The highlight of his career came against South Dakota State in October 1974 at Dacotah Field, when Dahl recorded 22 tackles in a 28-0 Bison win.  Twelve of those tackles were solo stops, including 7 QB sacks and 54 total yards in losses. He also intercepted a pass, broke up another and had two kickoff tackles in one of the most outstanding single-game efforts in Bison history. He was a 12th-round draft choice of the San Diego Chargers in 1975.
