The first North Central Conference wrestling champion and the first All-America wrestler for North Dakota State’s illustrious mat program. Wrestling at 147 pounds, McCormick won the NCC championship as a sophomore in 1964, finished second in the league in 1965, and didn’t get an opportunity to compete for another title in 1966 when a blizzard prevented NDSU from attending the conference meet. He finished fourth in the nation at 145 pounds in 1966, charting a 17-5 mark. He was the Bison team captain both his junior and senior years. He recorded a three-year dual meet mark of 34-9, including 18 pins in his last two seasons.
