Recognized in the Fargo-Moorhead area as a talented, much-sought-after speaker and actor, many of his after-dinner presentations took humorous aim at athletic events. There was nothing funny about Mulready for opponents in the 1940s. Mulready did it all, earning all-conference honors as a back in football, a starter and a standout in basketball, and a record-setting weight man in track. He scored three touchdowns in a 1946 game against Morningside, and owned a school record in the discus throw that stood for nearly 25 years. After leaving NDSU, Mulready was an end, both ways, for the professional Chicago Rockets football team.
