Three-sport standout for NDSU in football, basketball and track in the late 1920s and early 1930s. May was honorable mention all-conference fullback as a sophomore, first-team all-league as a junior and second team as senior despite dislocating his shoulder. At 6-foot-1, May was an all-conference selection in basketball. Established discus and shotput records in 1930. Coached prep sports at Lidgerwood and Grafton, N.D. He entered the Army Air Corps, after being with the infantry, made Lt. Col. in 1944. Retired from the U.S. Air Force as a colonel in 1968. Brother of two other prominent NDSU athletes, Emil and George.
