A four-year standout in volleyball and softball at North Dakota State, she earned All-Minn-Kota conference honors in both sports. She was all-conference on the volleyball court in 1978 and helped NDSU to a national tournament appearance in volleyball in 1975. She earned three all-conference honors in softball, compiled a 38-30 record on the mound, and set 11 school pitching records. In addition, she hit .348 at the plate during her career. Goebel helped NDSU to its only Minn-Kota Conference softball title in 1978. She has been a teacher and coach in the Rapid City, S.D., school system since leaving NDSU. She has been the head volleyball coach at Rapid City Central since 1989.
