Two-time NCAA Division II national cross country champion in 1971 and 1972, pacing the 1972 squad to the NCAA national team title after a second-place showing in 1971. Won two NCC cross country individual championships (1971 and 1971) and earned 12 league titles overall. Ran to five NCC outdoor titles and five NCC indoor crowns. Finished third in the 1971 Divison I cross country championships behind the famed Steve Prefontaine. Earned two NCAA Division II All-America awards in 1971 (second in the 3-mile run) and 1972 (third in the 10,000-meter run). Continued on as a world-class runner after graduation in 1973. Member of the U.S. Pan-American team in 1975 and 1979. Finished as a two-time Drake Relays champion, a Texas Relays champion and Kansas Relays champion.
