The first North Dakota State athlete to earn All-North Central Conference honors, he played both center and tackle for NDAC when the school nickname changed from the Aggies to the Bison.

He was a four-time all-state performer in football and was the captain of the 1921 NDAC football team. His All-NCC award came in 1922, the first year of operation for the nationally recognized league.

He graduated in 1923.
