Three-year starter and first team All-America linebacker for the Bison on two different teams (Kodak and Associated Press) in 1976. All-conference his junior and senior seasons and NDSU's most valuable player twice. He was the team captain of the 1976 Bison team that won the North Central Conference title and reached the NCAA Division II semifinals before falling to Montana State 10-3 at Dacotah Field. Named the league’s most valuable defensive back in 1976. Finished his career as the school record holder in 11 different categories. He still holds the NDSU career record holder for most tackles (398) and defensive points (2,304). Served two years as a graduate assistant football coach for the Bison in the early 1980s.
