Considered one of the greatest centers ever at NDSU, the 6-foot-6 Weir was a teammate of V.G. McKay on two straight league championship basketball teams in 1932 and 1933. A two-time all-conference selection, he was an honorable mention All-American and tabbed as one of the six best centers in a national coaches poll. Played on three national champion AAU basketball teams. Killed in action during World War II while leading his company in an operation following the Battle of the Bulge. A garrison for American troops on the island of Honshu was named “Camp Weir” after unanimous recommendation by his unit. One of his troops wrote: “He never asked us to do anything he wouldn't do.
