Standout lineman on Bison football teams of the early 1930s that lost close games to several major college powerhouses. Schoenfelder was called by newsmen “the star of the Bison...” when NDSU was edged by Minnesota, 13-7, in 1931. After Wisconsin squeezed past the Bison, 12-7, that same season, he was named one of the nation's outstanding tackles. “Dolly” was the team captain of the 1932 NCC champion Bison team. He was all-conference three straight seasons. Following graduation, Schoenfelder went into the land development business.
