Box Score

FARGO, N.D.--Ben Woodside scored 27 points and had nine assists to lead North Dakota State to an 87-65 win over Eastern Michigan in college men's basketball Saturday, Nov. 26, before a crowd of 2,255 at the Bison Sports Arena.

Woodside, a 5-foot-11 freshman guard from Albert Lea, Minn., scored 23 points in the second half and the Bison shot 76 percent from the field to recover from a 36-35 halftime deficit.

North Dakota State went on a 15-4 run midway through the second half with buckets from four different players to go up 65-49.

The Bison (2-2) led by as many as 25 points late in the game on Andre Smith's dunk with 1:53 to play.

Eastern Michigan (1-1) led by no more than six, and that margin was in the first half.  After a Phil Hahn 3-pointer brought the Bison within 25-24, the Eagles got a three-point play from John Bowler and Danny McElhinny bucket to go up 30-24.

NDSU was 18 of 22 at the foul line in the game, including a 9-for-10 effort by Woodside, who had a string of 24 consecutive made free throws snapped in the second half.

He had eight late against Hamline when he was 10-for-11 in the game, he hit 14 of 14 foul shots at Colorado State, and he made his first two against Eastern Michigan.

NDSU outrebounded Eastern Michigan 37-24.  Bison forward Brett Winkelman had eight rebounds and shared game-high honors with EMU's Bowler and Nick Freer.

Smith finished with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting as NDSU's only other double-digit scorer.  The Bison shot 56 percent (30 of 54) from the field altogether.

NDSU had 30 points off Eastern Michigan turnovers, compared to only 18 points for the Eagles.  Both teams committed 19 turnovers in the game.

The Bison held EMU to 42 percent shooting and blocked four shots.  Lucas Moormann and Lorenzo Riley each had two blocks for NDSU.

North Dakota State is scheduled to play at Wisconsin-Green Bay (1-3) at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29.  It will be the regular-season home opener for the Phoenix at the Resch Center.
