WATERLOO, Iowa--Northern Iowa scratched out two eighth-inning runs to earn a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over North Dakota State in the rubber game of a three-game college baseball series Sunday, April 24, at Riverfront Stadium.
The Panthers (16-22) got a one-out single from Curt Bradley, a hit batsman, a double steal and two Bison errors in the eighth inning to score the winning runs.
North Dakota State (3-31-1) went ahead 2-0 in the first inning on a two-run, two-out double by first baseman Reid Arnold that scored leadoff man Tim Erickson and Kole Zimmerman.
UNI scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first and tied the game in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Clayton Daniels.
NDSU starting pitcher Brandon Goltz did not factor in the decision. Goltz went four-plus innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, walking five and striking out three.
Left-handers Pat Thielke and Jake Laber went the rest of the way for NDSU. Laber picked up 3 1/3 innings out of the bullpen and was the losing pitcher. He allowed the two eighth-inning runs, scattered four hits and struck out four.
UNI reliever Taylor Sinclair started the third inning and pitched six innings for the win. Sinclair struck out eight and limited the Bison to only two hits and one base on balls.
North Dakota State committed a season-high five errors in the game.
