NDSU reaches the 20-win plateau for the first time since 2003 and finishes the regular season with an overall record of 20-7 and 12-4 in Summit League play.
The victory assures a top-four finish for the Bison and clinches a berth in the Summit League postseason tournament Nov. 16-17 in Fort Wayne, Ind. North Dakota State locked up the number two seed and will find out its first-round opponent on Sunday afternoon following the conclusion of the IPFW-IUPUI game.
Fresh off an emotional three game sweep of Oral Roberts on Friday night, NDSU dominated the match from the opening serve. The Ladies (2-28, 1-15) got out to a quick start in game two, but the Bison quickly regained momentum and cruised to the three game victory.
On senior night, it was fitting that the two Bison seniors had a night to remember in the final home game of their careers. Christy Stuewe recorded 13 kills and two aces while Kari Fagnan added 14 digs on the evening, extending her single-season record to 595.
"It has been an incredible year," said head coach Erich Hinterstocker following the victory. "These girls have worked extremely hard from day one, and they deserve to be in this situation. It was a great way to end the home season, and now it's time to get ready for our conference tournament."
South Dakota State clinched the regular season Summit League championship and the number one overall seed in the tournament by defeating Oral Roberts in three games, while Western Illinois defeated Oakland in four games to keep its postseason hopes alive.
