FARGO, N.D.--North Dakota State University has named Jason Kemp assistant men's basketball coach. That announcement came today from NDSU head coach Saul Phillips.
Kemp, 26, has spent the past two seasons as a graduate manager at North Dakota State. He previously was an assistant coach for one season at Minnesota State Moorhead.
"Jason has more than proven himself to be ready for this promotion," Phillips said. "Over the past two years, he has been an invaluable part of this coaching staff. The relationship he has with our players has been a large part of our recent success.
"Jason is bright and extremely professional, and his work ethic is unparalleled. He has completely committed himself to this program, and retaining Jason is a big moment for NDSU basketball."
A native of Madison, Wis., Kemp was a four-year letterwinner in basketball at Wisconsin-La Crosse. He played for current MSU Moorhead coach Stu Engen (2000-02) and was captain his senior year for coach Ken Koelbl (2003-04) before joining Engen's staff at MSU Moorhead.
Kemp earned a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science from Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2004 and completed a master's degree in sports management at North Dakota State in December.
Kemp joins associate head coach David Richman on the NDSU men's basketball staff. Phillips plans to name his final assistant coach next week.
