
Eric Johnson Named to the D-I Independent Men's Golf First Team

EDINBURG, Texas ? North Dakota State golfer Eric Johnson was selected to the Division I all-independent men's golf first team for the 2006-07 season. The all-independent team was selected by a vote of the sports information directors and the head coaches representing the independent schools.
Johnson, a senior from Elk River, Minn., won a school-record four titles during the 2006-07 season, including a three-shot victory at the D-I independent championships in Greeley, Colo., this past April.
Johnson, who had the second-best scoring average among the D-I independent golfers, averaged 72.3 strokes per round. To go along with his four victories, Johnson also recorded another top-5 finish in just eight tournaments this season. He also had a 3-0 record in match play that included a 2 & 1 victory over 2006 Summit League Champion Stephen Clark of UMKC.
In 35 career events at North Dakota State, Johnson recorded 21 top-10 finishes.
Louie Bishop, a senior from UC Davis, was named D-I independent men's golfer of the year. Bishop averaged 70.7 strokes per round and had six top-10 finishes in 10 events that included a pair of victories.
Freshman Adam Webb of Longwood University was named D-I independent newcomer of the year. Webb recorded two victories and nine top-10 finishes in 11 events played.
