North Dakota State women's track and field coach Ryun Godfrey announced Thursday that Rapid City (S.D.) Stevens High School standout Emily DeVries has signed a national letter of intent to compete in cross country and track and field for the Bison during the 2008-09 school year.
DeVries is a two-time state champion in the 300-meter hurdles, has won a state championship in the 100m hurdles and is a member of the state record holding 4x400m relay. She has only competed in track and field as a sophomore and a junior.
"We are thrilled to have Emily DeVries join Bison track and field and cross country," Godfrey said. "Emily has been a part of an excellent tradition with Rapid City Stevens High School. We are very much looking forward to Emily becoming a Bison and continuing the team success that is so important to her."
Rapid City Stevens has won the last 12 state Class AA team titles in track and field, which is the longest streak in the country and is one away from tying the national record.
DeVries also competed in cross country as a junior and was selected all-state and all-conference. She also considered Colorado State and Minnesota before chosing NDSU. She is the daughter of Joel and Kathleen DeVries.
