NDSU Blanks Utah 2-0, No. 11 Arizona Blasts Bison 9-2 at Wildcat Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz.--Randi Parks tossed a five-hitter to record her first collegiate shutout as North Dakota State University defeated the University of Utah 2-0 at Hillenbrand Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Wildcat Invitational. The Bison (7-2) lost 9-2 to No. 11-ranked Arizona (11-2).

NDSU closes out the Wildcat Invitational against Arizona at 9 a.m. (MT) on Sunday, Feb. 22.

Parks, a freshman from Boise, Idaho, struck out two and issued no walks. She received help from the defense. NDSU centerfielder Taylor Lynn and Laurel Pipkin combined to throw out one Utah baserunner trying to score in the second, while catcher Kelly Cantrell picked off a runner at second base to end the third inning.

North Dakota State scored in the third inning when Nicole Rivera outran an infield single with one out, stole second and scored on Pipkin's run-scoring base hit.

The Bison extended the lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning. Richel Briones singled up the middle, moved to second on a Jackie Currie sacrifice bunt and scored on Lynn's RBI infield single.

Joni Cook (0-4) took the loss for Utah (7-6). Cook scattered five hits, walked one and had no strikeouts. Staci Hemingway had two singles for the Utes.

North Dakota State held 2-1 lead against Arizona before the host Wildcats hit four home runs to score eight times in the fifth and sixth innings in the second game.

Breanna Konz doubled down  the right field line to knock in one run, while Briones belted an RBI single to put the Bison ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the second.

The Wilcats cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third, before Sam Bannister's two-run homer put Arizona ahead for good 4-2 in the fifth.

Arizona pulled away in the sixth as Brittany Lastrapes led off with a solo shot, Lauren Schutzler smacked a two-run HR, and  Lini Koria connected for a two-run home run.

Andi Padilla and Kim Westendorf pitched for NDSU with Padilla picking up the loss, her first in six outings. They combined to walk seven and strike out four.

Lindsey Sisk (5-2) recorded the win for the Wildcats. She scattered four hits, struck out four and walked two.
