Box Score TUCSON, Ariz.--Host and No. 11-ranked University of Arizona went deep in the 12-0 win over North Dakota State University on Sunday, Feb. 22, in the Wildcat Invitational at Hillenbrand Stadium. UA clouted six home runs, two by Stacie Chambers.
North Dakota State (7-3) is scheduled to participate in the Tennessee Classic on Feb. 27-March 1 in Knoxville. The Bison open against Bowling Green (2-3) at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27.
Chambers drove in six runs for the Wildcats (12-2), more than enough for pitchers Sarah Akamine (7-0) and reliever Jennifer Martinez, who combined on a two-hit shutout. Chambers has 30 RBI in 14 games.
Leadoff hitter Brittany Lastrapes lined an 0-1 pitch over the fence in right center to put UA on the scoreboard in the first inning. It was the second blast of the year for the normally slap-hitting lefty. An out later, Jenae Leles hit her second four-bagger of the year to make it 2-0. Lauren Schutzler and Lini Koria also hit home runs.
The Bison had singles by Elisa Victa in the first and fourth innings off Akamine, who had no walks and struck out one in four innings pitched. Martinez set down the side in order in the top of the fifth, striking out two. Victa hit .357 (5-14) during the five-game tournament.
Randi Parks (1-1) and Andi Padilla worked on the mound for North Dakota State with Parks recording the loss.
