Box Score AMES, Iowa--Iowa State University went double-time to defeat North Dakota State University 6-1 in a women's softball game played Tuesday, March 31, at SW Athletic Complex. The second game was cancelled because of weather conditions.
North Dakota State (17-13, 5-1 Summit) is scheduled to host IUPUI (3-29, 1-8 Summit) in a Summit League three-game series on Thursday, April 2, and Friday, April 3, at Iowa State. The teams play in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Thursday and a single-game at noon Friday. The Jaguars had a doubleheader with Notre Dame cancelled because of rain Tuesday.
Nicole Rivera scored the lone Bison run in the second inning. Rivera struck out, but reached first base on a passed ball. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on an Iowa State error and scored on a wild pitch.
Heidi Kidwell hit a two-run home to put the Cyclones (19-17) ahead at 2-1.
Iowa State then broke open the game in the fourth inning and sent nine batters to the plate. The Cyclones connected for six hits including three straight doubles from Jacquelyn Beatty, Bianca Lopez and Kelsey Kidwell. The inning was highlighted by Alex Johnson's two-run double.
Elisa Victa led North Dakota State with a pair of singles as Iowa State outhit the Bison 12-6.
Andi Padilla (12-7) picked up the loss. Padilla struck out five and walked two. Rachel Zabriskie (12-12) recorded the win for Iowa State. Zabriskie struck out eight and walked one.
