Box Score LAWRENCE, Kan.--Elisa Victa stroked a game-winning two-out, two-run single as North Dakota State rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to defeat the University of Kansas 5-4 in the first game of the KU Invitational played Friday, March 6, at Arrocha Ballpark.
North Dakota State (9-4) is scheduled to play Eastern Illinois (8-4) at 2 p.m. and Northern Iowa (10-4) at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 7.
The Bison trailed 4-1 heading into the inning. Kelly Cantrell led off with a double, Richel Briones singled and Jackie Currie walked to load the bases. Breanna Konz was hit by pitch to push across one run with one out and Nicole Rivera singled through the left side to cut the deficit to 4-3.
With two outs, Victa singled up the middle to collected a pair of runs batted in.
Andi Padilla (6-2), who retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh, went the distance to record the win for North Dakota State. Padilla allowed four hits, walked four and struck out one.
Val George (6-6) picked up the loss for Kansas. George struck out seven, gave up six hits and walked a pair of batters in 6-2/3 innings.
Cantrell led the Bison with a double and single, while Melissa Chmielewski hit her third home run of the season -- a solo shot -- in the first inning. Val Chapple led Kansas (7-12) with a double and single.
