Cold Shooting Dooms Bison at No. 25 Iowa, 87-56

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The North Dakota State University men's basketball team suffered through a cold shooting night on Monday at No. 25-ranked Iowa, losing a road contest in the 2k Classic at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, 87-56.
 
NDSU (0-2) was 18-of-67 shooting (26.9 percent) for the game, while the Hawkeyes went 30-of-56 (53.6 percent) from the floor.
 
In his 100th career game and his 100th consecutive start, NDSU senior guard Lawrence Alexander led all players with 21 points. Alexander made a career-high six three-pointers on 10 attempts from beyond the arc. The Peoria, Ill., native moved into 20th place on the NDSU all-time scoring list with 1,168 points.
 
Iowa (2-0) had five players score in double figures, led by senior center Gabriel Olaseni with 14 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. The Hawkeyes extended their non-conference home win streak to 26 games.
 
The Bison got eight points from freshman guard Paul Miller. Sophomore Carlin Dupree dished out a career-best six assists, and junior Chris Kading led NDSU with six rebounds.
 
Iowa bolted out to a 27-15 lead 11 minutes into the contest, but NDSU responded to trim the deficit to seven points on three different occasions before halftime. The Hawkeyes were leading 31-24 when they closed the half on a 12-2 run to hold a 43-26 advantage at the break.
 
The Bison forced 18 Iowa turnovers to win the turnover battle, 18-16.
 
NDSU will host a 2k Classic subregional at Scheels Arena in Fargo on Friday, Nov. 21, and Saturday, Nov. 22. The Bison play Kennesaw State on Friday and either Hampton or Alcorn State on Saturday, with both NDSU games at 7 p.m.
