Turnovers Doom NDSU Women’s Basketball at Western Michigan Wednesday, 74-59

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team (1-2) committed a season-high 24 turnovers, falling, 74-59, at Western Michigan (2-0) on Wednesday, Nov. 19, inside University Arena.   

Senior Brooke LeMar paced NDSU in scoring with 15 points and three assists, while junior Kahla Becken scored 14 points and hit a career-high four three-pointers in the contest. Junior Marena Whittle posted a double-double for the second-straight game for the Bison, tallying 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bison shot just 38 percent from the field, going 23-for-60, and were 9-for-25 from three-point range for 36 percent. NDSU only attempted eight free-throws in the game, converting four of them for 50 percent.

Western Michigan was led by Jessica Jessing with a career-high 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting, and Teagan Reeves with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The Broncos went 28-for-65 from the field for 43 percent and were 27 percent from three, going 4-for-15. Western Michigan shot 64 percent from the free throw line, making 14-of-22 attempts.

The Bison were tied with Western Michigan, 7-7, with 17:30 remaining in the first-half when the Broncos went on a 10-0 run to take a 17-7 lead over the Bison with 13:22 on the clock. North Dakota State would pull within three, 23-20, after a jumper from Whittle with 8:24 remaining, but that would be as close as the Bison would get the remainder of the game.

With the loss, the Bison fall to 1-2 overall, while Western Michigan improves to 2-0.

North Dakota State returns to action next Friday, Nov. 28, at 2:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. CT) against Northeastern (Mass.) in the opening game of the Florida Atlantic University Thanksgiving Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla.
