NDSU Women's Basketball Cruises to Exhibition Win Over Bemidji State Friday, 100-47

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team opened the 2014-15 season and the Maren Walseth Era with a convincing 100-47 exhibition victory over the Division II Bemidji State Beavers on Friday evening, Nov. 7, at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

Junior Holly Johnson posted a double-double and led three Bison in double figures in the contest with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Brooke LeMar nearly tallied a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, while junior Kahla Becken tallied 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting.

The Bison shot 37-of-77 (48 percent) from the field in the game, including a 10-for-23 (44 percent) tally from three-point range. NDSU went 16-for-22 at the free-throw line for 73 percent and out-rebounded Bemidji State in the contest, 56-44. The Bison netted 24 points off 18 Bemidji State turnovers.

NDSU held a 20-16 lead over the Beavers with 9:40 remaining in the first-half when freshman Taylor Thunstedt drilled a three, sparking a 35-5 run that sent the Bison into halftime with a commanding 55-21 lead.  

The Bison continued the offensive outburst in the second-half, stretching the lead to as many as 54 points in the final three minutes of the stanza.

NDSU will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 14, against Kent State in the friendly confines of the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.
