Dexter Werner recorded his first career double-double to lift the North Dakota State men's basketball team to a 61-50 victory over Alcorn State in the consolation game of the Sun Bowl Invitational on Monday, Dec. 22, inside the Don Haskins Center.
Werner, a sophomore forward from Bismarck, N.D., scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Bison in both categories. Junior
Kory Brown added 12 points and eight boards for NDSU, and
Carlin Dupree chipped in 11 points.
NDSU improved to 7-5 on the season, while Alcorn State fell to 1-10. The Bison shot 39 percent for the game and limited the Braves to a 30-percent shooting effort.

Brian Ishola played a season-high 21 minutes off the bench, tallying three points and three rebounds.
The Bison led by as many as 21 points at 36-15 following a
Lawrence Alexander three-pointer with 1:23 left in the first half. Alcorn State opened the second half on a 12-3 run to pull within single digits at 39-30, and the Braves later trimmed the deficit to seven at 44-37 with 13 minutes remaining.
NDSU scored the next four points on a pair of free throws by
Paul Miller and a jumper by
Carlin Dupree, and Alcorn State never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Over his last three games, Werner is averaging 12.3 points and 12.0 rebounds.
NDSU will host Division III Northland College (Wis.) at Scheels Arena on Sunday, Dec. 28, to close out the non-conference portion of its schedule. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
