COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 20 North Dakota State wrestling team won three straight weight classes, but was unable to overcome the No. 25 Oregon State Beavers in a 23-14 loss at the EAS/NWCA National Duals at St. John Arena Monday, Feb. 17.
 
Trailing 16-3 through five weight classes, NDSU senior Steven Monk earned a 16-1 technical fall at 165 pounds over Oregon State's Toney Chay.
 
Bison sophomore No.11 Hayden Zillmer and junior No. 23 Kurtis Julson picked up decisions at 174 and 184 pounds, respectively, cutting the deficit to 16-14.
 
Oregon State finished off the match with a major decision by No. 11 Taylor Meeks at 197 pounds, while NDSU junior Evan Knutson narrowly fell to No. 14 Amarveer Dhesi, 3-2.
 
The Beavers picked up a split in duals this season with the victory Monday, avenging a 19-17 non-conference defeat to the Bison on Jan. 19, in Corvallis, Ore.
 
NDSU redshirt freshman Hunter Weber scored the three remaining points with a 6-0 decision at 125 pounds.
 
Monk – ranked third in the nation at 165 pounds with an overall record of 27-1 – was the only Bison wrestler to win each of their dual matchups at the National Duals competition, while earning his 20^th consecutive victory.
 
The Bison (10-6) return home to host the Wyoming Cowboys in a Western Wrestling Conference dual at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at the Bison Sports Arena.
