NDSU Men’s Throwers Impress at Baldy Castillo Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team received an impressive series of performances from its throwers at the Baldy Castillo Invitational hosted by Arizona State University on Saturday to open the 2014 outdoor season.
Junior Trevor Berner threw a personal best 197-03 (60.12m) in the hammer throw to finish fifth in the meet and rank second in school history in the event. Sophomore Brandt Berghuis also notched a personal-best mark in the hammer, throwing 191-02 (58.27m) for fifth on the NDSU all-time list.
Josh Eiler threw 179-09 (54.78m) to rank ninth all-time at NDSU in the hammer throw.
NDSU redshirt freshman Alex Renner is now fourth in NDSU history in the outdoor shot put after throwing 55-01.00 (16.79m) for fourth place in the meet. Berghuis was close behind, tossing 54-08.25 (16.67m) for fifth place.
Sophomore Quinn Baumann entered the Bison top-10 list in the javelin at No. 9, throwing 209-09 (63.93m) for fourth place Saturday.
NDSU sophomore Colin Paarmann posted personal-best efforts in two events. He finished eighth in the long jump with a mark of 22-05.25 (6.84m) and ninth in the 110m hurdles with a personal-best clocking of 14.95 seconds.
Sprinter Nate Mattson was seventh in the 100m dash in 11.03 seconds, and Donte Smart was eighth in the 200m dash at 22.04 seconds. Redshirt freshman Dalton Herding ran 49.31 in the 400m for 10th place.
Grant Mjelstad cleared 15-07.00 (4.75m) in the pole vault for ninth place.
NDSU volunteer assistant coach and reigning USA champion Riley Dolezal threw 256-05 (78.17m) in his 2014 javelin debut.
