Fort Wayne Defeats NDSU 3-1 to Take Summit League Softball Series

Box Score

FARGO, N.D.--Alex Bousquet hit a two-run home run in the third inning to lead Fort Wayne to a 3-1 win over North Dakota State University in a Summit League softball game played Sunday, April 20, at Gate City Bank Field in the Fargodome. The Mastodons won two out of three games in the series.

North Dakota State (25-15, 8-3 SL) is scheduled to host Western Illinois (18-19-1, 4-8 SL) in a three-game series April 25-26 at The Ellig Sports Complex.

Alex Bousquet belted a two-run home run to center field that sent Bison outfielder Alex Sobrero over the fence. Kayti Hanson reached on an infield single with one out to set-up Bousquet, who hit her third homer of the season.

NDSU cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sobrero lined a single to center, advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on Logan Moreland's bunt single. Cheyenne Garcia scorched a line drive to center, resulting in a sacrifice fly to score Sobrero. However, Moreland overslid third base and was tagged out on the play.

The Mastodons (31-13, 10-4 SL) tacked on an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning. Larissa Franklin went to second on a throwing error and moved to third on a wild pitch. Hillary Kartman delivered a two-out single to left to score Franklin.

Miranda Kramer (16-8) retired the last seven Bison batters faced in order to record the win for Fort Wayne. Kramer struck out nine, scattered four hits and walked one.

Krista Menke (19-6) was tagged with the loss. Menke struck out nine, allowed three hits and walked one. She gave up only four hits over 18 innings pitched during the weekend, with 23 strikeouts and four walks.

Moreland finished with two of the four NDSU base hits.
