Box Score OMAHA, Neb.--University of Nebraska-Omaha's Amber Lutmer hit a home run and the Mavericks defense made the plays in a 1-0 shutout of North Dakota State University in a Summit League softball game played Sunday, April 6, before 154 fans at Westside Field at Westbrook. All three games were decided by one run in the series.
NDSU (21-13, 4-1 SL) is scheduled to play at South Dakota State (7-21, 2-7 SL) on April 11-12 in Brookings.
Lutmer hit a solo home run to left center with two outs in the third inning for Omaha (20-13, 3-3 SL). She had both hits for the Mavs including a double in the first inning.
Krista Menke (16-5) took the loss for North Dakota State. Menke retired 13 in a row following the home run and recorded her second straight two-hitter and 11th in her career. She struck out seven and issued now walks.
The Bison threatened in each of the final four innings, but Omaha pitcher Dana Elsasser and the defense snuffed out the rallies. A double play ended the fourth.
Amanda Grable and
Alex Sobrero each stroked a double in the fifth and sixth innings, but Elsasser recorded strikeouts to stop NDSU.
North Dakota State had chances in the seventh.
Jenina Ortega doubled down the right field line but was thrown out trying to advanced to third. Grable and
Maritza Lopez-Portillo singled after that, but the Mavs thwarted a double steal attempt. Grable went 3-for-3 for NDSU.
Elsasser (17-6) struck out eight, scattered seven hits and walked one in recording the shutout. It was only the third time the Bison have been shutout this season and first since No. 12-ranked Florida State on Feb. 16.
