Miller’s Second-Half Goal Helps Bison Shutout UND Friday, 1-0

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State sophomore midfielder Lauren Miller helped lift the Bison women's soccer team (1-0-0) to a 1-0 shutout victory over visiting North Dakota (0-1-0) in front of 503 fans at Dacotah Field Friday, Aug. 22, to open the 2014 regular season.

Miller put the Bison up 1-0 in the 63rd-minute of the match when she slipped a chip shot from Anisha Kinnarath on the left of the box into the back of the net. It marked the first goal of the season for Miller and the first assist for Kinnarath.

North Dakota State controlled the majority of the match offensively but UND goalkeeper Kristi Hestdalen made seven saves to help keep the match scoreless until Miller's goal in the second-half.

For the match, the Bison outshot North Dakota by an impressive 16-5 margin, including a 9-0 edge in shots on goal. NDSU also held UND without a corner kick the entire match while taking six of its own.

Bison goalkeeper Sierra Bonham went the full 90 minutes in goal to pick up her first victory of the season and improve to 1-0-0.

Hestdalen ended the match with eight saves and suffered the loss for UND between the pipes to drop to 0-1-0.

The Bison return to the pitch Sunday, Aug. 24, when they host Presentation College to close out a four-game homestand at Dacotah Field. First-kick is slated for 6 p.m.
