WICHITA, Kan. – The North Dakota State University women's basketball team fell to the North Carolina A&T State Aggies, 72-64, on Friday, Dec. 18, in the Wichita State Shocker Winter Classic at Charles Koch Arena.
Sophomore
Taylor Thunstedt led the Bison (2-8 overall) with 23 points on 7-for-18 shooting from the field, including a 5-of-10 performance from three-point range, while senior
Marena Whittle also reached double figures with 20 points. Whittle and junior
Brianna Jones paced NDSU on the boards with nine rebounds each.
The Bison shot 37 percent from the field, going 23-for-62, and 46 percent from three-point range, making 11-of-24 attempts. NDSU shot just 47 percent at the free-throw line, going 7-of-15.
NDSU outrebounded North Carolina A&T (4-6 overall), 46-32, but committed 25 turnovers which led to 23 Aggie points. The Bison were also outscored in the paint, 40-14.
Aprill McRae scored a game-high 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting to lead North Carolina A&T. Courtney Powell and Michelle Fitzgerald each snagged five rebounds to lead the Aggies on the boards.
North Carolina A&T went 26-for-54 from the field for 48 percent, but only 1-of-5 from beyond the arc for 20 percent. The Aggies made 19 of 32 attempts at the free-throw line for 59 percent.
North Carolina A&T committed 11 turnovers.
North Dakota State is scheduled to take on Prairie View A&M on Saturday, Dec. 19, at noon to close out play in the Shocker Winter Classic.
