Oregon State Rallies Past NDSU 6-5 at SDSU Campbell/Cartier Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif.--Oregon State University scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally past North Dakota State University 6-5 on Saturday, Feb. 14, in the final game of the Campbell/Cartier Classic hosted by San Diego State University at the SDSU Softball Classic.

NDSU went 3-2 at the Classic and drops to 7-3 on the season. The Bison play Saint Francis University  (Pa.) at 8 a.m. Central on Friday, Feb. 20, in the opening game of the NC State Hyatt Place Challenge in Raleigh.

Oregon State (8-3) trailed 5-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh. With two on and two outs, the Beavers rattled off four straight singles including Hannah Akamine's game-winning two-run base hit to left field to claim the win.  Mikela Manewa and Akamine each went 2-for-4 for OSU, which finished with eight hits.

North Dakota State scored three times in the top of the third inning, taking advantage of an error and Alyssa Reina's two-RBI single.

The Beavers trimmed the lead to 3-1 on Dani Gilmore's solo home run to right field to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning.

NDSU answered with a Cheyenne Garcia solo home run with two outs in the top of the fifth inning. It was the fourth home run of the season for Garcia, who went 2-for-3.

The Bison scratched out a run in the sixth to make it 5-1. Jackie Stifter walked with one out. Pinch-runner Joei Samper stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.

Beverly Miller (4-3) struck out seven, scattered five hits and walked to record the win for Oregon State. Miller allowed only two earned runs.

Krista Menke (5-1) picked up the loss. Menke struck out 10 and walked two. She reached double-figure strikeouts for the fourth straight game, the fifth time this season and 12th time of her career.
