FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's basketball team (9-16, 5-8 Summit League) fell to the Omaha Mavericks (8-17, 3-10 Summit League), 73-65, on Saturday, Feb. 14, in the Edith Sanford Breast Foundation Pink Game inside the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
With the loss, the Bison fall to 9-16 overall and 5-8 in Summit League play, while Omaha improves to 8-17 and 3-10 in league play. North Dakota State has now lost six straight games dating back to its last win at Omaha on Jan. 22.
Holly Johnson led three Bison in double figures with 15 points on 6-for-16 shooting, while
Brooke LeMar tallied 12 points and
Marena Whittle posted 10. Whittle led NDSU on the boards, snagging a career-and game-high 20 rebounds, to pick up her fourth double-double of the season.
The Bison shot 28-for-75 from the field for 37 percent and were 5-for-18 from three-point range for just 28 percent in the game. NDSU only attempted seven free throws, making four for 57 percent.
North Dakota State outrebounded Omaha in the contest, 45-35.
Mikaela Shaw paced Omaha in scoring with a career-and game-high 38 points on 15-for-26 shooting. Shaw also led the Mavs on the boards, pulling down nine rebounds.
The Mavs shot 48 percent from the field, going 29-for-61, and were 29 percent from beyond-the-arc, making 5-of-17 shots. UNO went 10-of-12 at the foul line for 83 percent.
Trailing 47-33 with 12:59 to go in the second half, the Bison went on a 14-0 run to tie the game at 47 after
Liz Keena converted a layup with 8:46 remaining. Omaha was able to hold-off the Bison the remainder of the game, though, to seal the victory.
The Bison are scheduled to travel to IUPUI in Indianapolis on Thursday, Feb. 19, for a 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) Summit League game inside The Jungle.
