BLOOMINGTON, Ind.--
Krista Menke threw her fourth shutout of the season and matched her career-high with 16 strikeouts as North Dakota State University defeated Bowling Green State University 3-0 on Saturday, March 14, at Indiana University's weather-shortened Hoosier Classic.
NDSU (15-5) is scheduled to close out Hoosier Classic play against Wright State at 11:15 a.m. Central Time on Sunday, March 15.
Menke, a 5-foot-11 senior from Friend, Neb., allowed Bowling Green (5-12) an Aspen Serle lead-off single in the first and a Haley Schrock fourth-inning base hit. Only a pair of Falcons' baserunners reached second base.
Menke (11-2) walked two and hit one batter in notching her fifth two-hitter of the season. She reached double-figures in strikeouts for the ninth time this season and 16th time in her career.
North Dakota State scored a single-run in the bottom of the second inning.
Amanda Grable led off with a double to left center, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on
Jackie Stifter's RBI fielder's choice.
The Bison tacked on a pair of runs with two outs to extend the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third.
Cheyenne Garcia started things with a single, stole second and third, and scored on
Alyssa Reina single to left. Reina stole second and was promptly knocked home on a Grable base hit. Grable finished 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and RBI.
Briana Combs picked up the loss for Bowling Green. She scattered six hits, struck out three and walked two.
