NDSU, Omaha Split Summit League Softball Twinbill

OMAHA, Neb.--North Dakota State University defeated the University of Nebraska Omaha 3-1 in the first game and Omaha came back to take the second game 6-0 in a Summit League softball doubleheader on Saturday, March 28, at Westside Field at Westbrook. The second game loss snapped NDSU's 10-game winning streak.

North Dakota State (24-6, 4-1 Summit League) and Omaha (16-14, 4-1 Summit League) are scheduled to close out the three-game series with an 11 a.m. single-game Sunday, March 29.

The Bison scratched out a single run in the top of the second inning. Alyssa Reina and Amanda Grable started the inning with singles and moved up a base on Maritza Lopez-Portillo's ground out to shortstop. Jackie Stifter's RBI single to right scored Reina.

Omaha tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Campbell Ditto walked, stole second and scored on Lizzie Noble's run-scoring single up the middle.

NDSU regained the lead at 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning. Logan Moreland reached on an error and moved to second on Cheyenne Garcia's base hit. Moreland scored on the second Omaha error of the inning.

The Bison tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Garcia singled with two outs, advanced to third on an error and scored on Grable's single down the right field line. Grable went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI, while Garcia added a pair of hits.

Krista Menke (17-2) struck out 12, scattered four hits and walked five to pick up the win. Menke reached double-figure strikeouts for the 15th time this season and 22nd time in her career. Kat Barrow (7-5) recorded the loss for the Mavs. Barrow struck out five and walked two.

Lizzie Noble went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored to lead Omaha's offensive explosion in game two. Noble's three-run home run highlighted a four-run sixth inning for the Mavs. Nicole Warren went 2-for-3 including a solo home run in the sixth and added two RBI.

Jaylee Hinrichs (7-4) picked up the win for Omaha, allowing four hits and shutting out NDSU for the first time in 30 games this season. Hinrichs struck out nine and walked one. Jacquelyn Sertic (7-4) took the loss for NDSU. Sertic struck out eight and walked one. Garcia led the Bison with a pair of singles.
