WALNUT, Calif. – North Dakota State sophomore thrower Matti Mortimore captured a Mt. SAC Relays championship and a new school record in the javelin on Friday afternoon. The sophomore from Ipswich, Suffolk, England, threw 237-4 (72.33m), which now ranks him eighth in the NCAA this season.
Mortimore's new personal-best throw makes him the No. 1 British man in the javelin this year. He overtook Bison junior Tyler Parker for the NDSU record, as both have now passed former record holder and USA javelin champion Riley Dolezal.
Parker finished ninth at Mt. SAC Friday with a throw of 217-7 (66.32m), but he is still ranked 10th in the nation this season, giving the Bison two throwers in the NCAA's top 10.
Late Friday night at the Mt. SAC Relays, Bison senior Lucas DeGree ran a lifetime-best of 14:30.41 in the 5000m, making him the 4th-fastest in NDSU history in the event.
