FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University baseball team (17-27, 8-17 Summit League) fell to the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits (29-18, 16-9 Summit League), 10-1, in the series opener of a three-game league series on Friday, May 8, at Newman Outdoor Field. The loss snapped NDSU's seven-game winning streak.
Aiden Hook led the Bison at the plate, going 2-for-4, while
JT Core added a double, and redshirt freshman
Matt Elsenpeter collected his first hit and stolen base as a Bison.
Right-hander
Sean Terres (0-1) took the loss on the mound for North Dakota State after giving up six earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
South Dakota State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a pair of RBI singles, before adding three more runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh to increase its advantage to 10-0.
The Bison scored their lone run of the game in the bottom-half of the seventh on a
Ben Petersen RBI ground out.
Matthew Johnson led the Jackrabbits at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, a double and a home run, while SDSU right-hander Adam Bray picked up the win on the mound after allowing no earned runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and two walks to improve to 7-3 on the season.
NDSU and SDSU are scheduled to conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 9, beginning at 1 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
