FARGO, N.D.-- Julia Kaczorowska had a match-high 14 kills and Faith Dooley had 11 kills and five blocks as North Dakota defeated North Dakota State 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 30-28) in a non-conference volleyball match played Tuesday, Oct. 25, before 1,289 fans at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
NDSU (7-16, 5-4 Summit League) is scheduled to host Western Illinois on Friday, Oct. 28, and Omaha on Saturday, Oct. 29. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
The Fighting Hawks outhit NDSU .270 to .131 and also held a commanding 13-3 advantage in team blocks. Dooley hit .476 and Kaczorowska hit. 467, while Chelsea Moser joined the block party with five blocks and Sydney Griffin added four. Griffin directed the offense with 37 assists, while Tamara Merseli had 16 digs.
North Dakota used an eight-point run to pull away for the first set win, while using a six-point string late to take set two.
North Dakota State fought back from several five-point deficits including 19-14 to tie the third set at 20-all as
Jessica Jorgensen,
Hadley Steffen,
Monica Claxton and
Mikaela Purnell sparked the Bison.
Jorgensen and Steffen each had 11 kills, while Claxton came off the bench for 15 assists, four digs and a pair of kills. Purnell came up with a match-high 16 digs. Jorgensen reached double-figure kills for the first time since Sept. 23, while Purnell has tallied double-figure digs in 12 of 13 matches played.
