Fort Wayne Comes Back to Sting NDSU 3-2

FARGO, N.D. — Nicole Rightnowar connected for a match-high 20 kills and 19 digs, and Olivia Hahn came up with 36 digs as Fort Wayne came back from a 2-0 deficit to win three straight for a 3-2 win (23-25, 16-25, 25-14, 25-19, 15-10) over host North Dakota State in a Summit League volleyball match played Friday, Oct. 7, before 754 spectators in the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
 
NDSU is scheduled to play at South Dakota State at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11.
 
Fort Wayne (4-0 Summit League, 10-7) won in five sets for the second time on the road in league play and third time in six tries. NDSU (3-2 SL, 5-13) fell to 0-3 in five sets.
 
Hadley Steffen had eight of her 14 kills as the Bison overcame nine ties and five lead changes to take set one. Steffen added 18 digs to complete her team-leading sixth double-double of the season. She's reached double-figure kills in 12 matches.
 
Emily Minnick had seven of her team-high 16 kills to lead the NDSU charge in the second set.
 
However, Fort Wayne caught fire in the third set. The Mastodons hit .486 in the third and .480 in the fifth to end the match at .237 compared to .176 for NDSU.
 
Rightnowar had plenty of help for Fort Wayne. Natalie Seiler came up with a kill and a solo block to turn a 6-6 tie into an 8-6 lead for the Mastodons. Somer Johnson, Lauren Hoffman, Seiler and Rightnowar came up with plays down the stretch to keep the Bison at a distance.
 
Johnson followed with 16 kills, Hoffman collected 14 and Seiler added 13. Seiler recorded six blocks including five solos, while Natasha Medic and Johnson each had three blocks. Madison Jaqua contributed 53 assists and 16 digs.
 
Emily Miron was credited with 10 kills and four blocks for NDSU, while Brianna Rasmusson had 48 assists, 16 digs and a pair of blocks. Mikaela Purnell added 11 digs.
