AMHERST, Mass. – The North Dakota State University women's basketball team fell at the University of Massachusetts, 70-58, on Monday, Nov. 14, at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Sophomore
Kennedy Childers led the Bison (1-1) with a team-high 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field. Childers finished just one-point shy of matching her career high of 18 points.
Senior
Emily Spier added a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while freshman
Sarah Jacobson also reached double figures with 11 points.
NDSU rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit, but came up short of completing the comeback in the second-half. After trimming the UMass (1-1) advantage to 51-41 with 43 seconds to go in the third quarter, North Dakota State went on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to four after Jacobson converted a three-pointer with 9:19 to go in the fourth quarter. That was as close as NDSU could get though, as the Minutewomen held-off the Bison rally the remainder of the stanza.
The Bison shot just 31 percent from the floor in the game and committed 18 turnovers. NDSU did control the glass in the contest, outrebounding UMass 40-33.
The Minutewomen shot 46 percent from the field and outscored North Dakota State in the paint, 46-14.
Hailey Leidel paced UMass and led all scorers with 24 points on 8-for-19 shooting.
North Dakota State is back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Providence. Tip-off in Providence, R.I., is scheduled for noon ET (11 a.m. CT).
