The North Dakota State men's track & field team saw strong performances across the board at a pair of meets on Saturday, as the Bison hosted the Thundering Herd Classic and competed at the Iowa State Classic.
At Iowa State, Landon Jochim, Jonah Warwick, Matt Bedard and Aron Klos ran 3:14.91 in the 4x400m relay. It was the fastest indoor 4x400m relay for NDSU since 2005.
Warwick clocked a personal-best of 1:51.41 in the 800m at Iowa State, ranking him seventh in NDSU indoor history in the event. Matt Jennings also recorded a personal-best, finishing in 1:54.00.
Klos posted a 400m personal best of 49.30 at ISU before returning later to anchor the NDSU 4x400.
After a day of personal-bests for the Bison distance crew on Friday at Iowa State, Brant Gilbertson recorded another one on Saturday, clocking 4:15.64 in the mile.
Junior Alex Renner won the shot put at the Thundering Herd Classic with a mark of 60-05.00 (18.41m), leading a Bison sweep of the top six places in the event. Sophomore Payton Otterdahl posted an indoor personal-best of 58-08.00 (17.88m) for second place in the shot put. Brandt Berghuis took third, Steffan Stroh was fourth, unattached freshman Michael Keogan placed fifth, and Brian Blasey finished sixth.
NDSU senior Colin Paarmann won the triple jump at the Thundering Herd Classic, leaping 48-09.00 (14.86m). It was the third meet this year that Paarmann went over 48-6 in the event. The Mankato, Minn., native also placed second in the long jump.
Unattached Bison senior Parker McKittrick won the 60m hurdles in a career-best 8.04 seconds. Senior Jerome Begin ran 8.11 to be the runner-up, setting a new career best and tying for ninth-fastest in school history.
Junior Conrad Schwarzkopf won the weight throw at NDSU, leading a Bison sweep of the top seven places. Schwarzkopf threw 64-05.00 (19.63m), coming up one inch shy of tying his own school record. Otterdahl registered a weight throw PR of 62-06.50 (19.06m), ranking him fifth in NDSU history. Stroh moved into the NDSU all-time top 10 with a personal-best of 59-06.75 (18.15m) in the weight throw.
Freshman Karter Gorney was the runner-up in the 60m dash in Fargo, crossing the line in 7.00 seconds. Begin placed second in the 200m dash in 22.45. NDSU freshman Jacob Richter ran 49.74 in the 400m for third place.
Junior Grant Mjelstad and senior Brock Larson took second and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault, with both clearing 15-07.00 (4.75m).
In a meet at South Dakota State, unattached NDSU freshman Elliott Stone ran the 3000m in 8:27.94, meeting the qualifying standard for the 2016 USATF Junior Championships.
